Even before lockdown people would not bother with SPF indoors or in winter as they believed it unnecessary.

I was one of them… It’s time to set the record straight.

Standard glass windows block UVB rays but not UVA rays.  Computer screens also emit UVA rays.  These can penetrate deeper in the skin than UVB and are the MAIN contributing factor to photo-aging – think wrinkles, darks spots and crepey skin.  They can also contribute to skin cancer.

“If you’re sitting near the window… you are actually exposing yourself to UVA light, which is responsible for premature aging and skin cancers”, says Joshua Zeichner, board-certified dermatologist and director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology, Mount Sinai Hospital, NYC and recommend a broad-spectrum protection of at least SPF 30.

But remember…

Not all SPFs are created equal.  Basically there are two types of SPF:

– chemical (which penetrate the skin and are often not beneficial and even detrimental to the overall health of the skin) and

– mineral or physical, containing either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which lay on top of the skin providing a light-reflecting barrier

Éminence Organic Skin Care, our chosen skin care house, only offer the mineral sort.  The only thing that penetrates the skin are the other beneficial ingredients to hydrate, nourish and treat your skin.
